Before/After: DIY Faux Brick Wall With Peel And Stick Wallpaper

February 9, 2016 // DIY

Bare brick walls are like so New York you guys, but contrary to what some may think, not all apartments are blessed with this lofty look. Another issue is that you may have a red brick wall and you’re stuck with it because your landlord won’t let you paint it white in keeping with your fantasy of living in a Scandinavian-style, all-white space.

However, peel and stick wallpapers have come a long way in the past few years and this pale grey version from NuWallpaper is a great example of how great they can be. The cool grey tone works perfectly with current color trends and the pattern is incredibly easy to match when hanging each strip.

The big question is this: Is peel and stick wallpaper really as easy to hang as everyone says? As we have actually hung regular wallpaper using paste, pasting table, the whole nine yards, we can safely say that yes, it really is that easy.

What we were most impressed with was how durable this particular paper is – it definitely stuck to itself a couple of times while we were applying it, but it did not tear when we pulled it apart. That’s major.

The application is soooo simple:

1. We started in the top left corner and it was as easy as lining the roll up with the wall and unrolling the backing gradually as we brought the roll down the wall.

2. The bubbles smoothed out easily with our handswe didn’t need any special tool for that.

3. After the first roll, you line up the pattern on the next section to match perfectly, and trim the roll so it’s a little longer than the ceiling/baseboard.

4. When the whole wall has been covered, just go back to the ceiling and baseboard ends and finish perfectly with an X-Acto knife.

And that’s it! In case you’re wondering, yes the paper comes off super easily when you’re over it, so it’s perfect for the fickle-slash-indecisive among us.

Before: The walls were plain white and frankly kind of boring. The chair rail was part of a previous DIY project.
