Before/After: From Black And White Bedroom To Glorious Technicolor

April 7, 2015 // Makeovers

Black and white is always good, that we won’t dispute. But color is good, too. Here we tackled a space that was frankly a little dull to make it younger, fresher, brighter, everything-er.

The before was pretty cute, but def v. black and white. It’s okay to like the before more, BTW.

The gray rug and velvet curtains were the original inspo for this room. Let’s do gray with punches of color, we said. Decorator border rug $399 at PBTeen. Duvet set $29.99 for a twin at H&M.

Sigh. The simplicity of a tulip lamp. You can totally mix up mod and traditional. Anything works as long as you like it. Lamp $59.95 at CB2

H&M has an awesome bedding range, and their accessories game is very strong, too. Who doesn’t love a poodle pillow? Duvet set $29.99 for a twin and pillow cover $9.95 at H&M.

Flowers don’t have to be expensive. This bunch is like five bucks at a deli. We simply stuck them in a plain black vase. The bunny ring holder, $9.99, is from Modcloth and the white lacquered box,$9.99 is by The Container Store. Doesn’t it look like one piece? Or is that just us?

White on white is never not good. Same goes for pineapples. This lil’ pineapple candle is only $6.95 at H&M. It comes in gold and silver, too.

The art is based on 2010 New York street art  when Deborah Kass painted this on a store shutter on the Bowery. She then collaborated with the Art Production Fund to recreate the piece on canvas, and now we can all enjoy a bit of the Bowery in our homes.

The wall took literally five minutes. We stuck some black dot stickers at random, and it changed it completely. This would also look cute with neon pink/green/yellow dots.

Canvas $499 at Art.com

You don’t always have to match your nightstands to your bed. In face, sometimes it’s better not to. With the teal from the wall canvas as inspiration, we added $29.99 metal tables from Target. Not only do they pop off the white wall, they’re also less bulky and appear to add space. Of course there’s nowhere to hide anything, but you just gotta live with that. Velvet curtain panels from $49.99 at PBTeen.
